Jake Grass, Jr., 82, of Mountain Home, died at home on Jan. 20, 2009, surrounded by his family.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 3 p.m. at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, with military honors by American Legion Post #26. Cremation was under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Jake was born and raised in Missouri and joined the US Navy in August 1945. "He retired after giving dedicated service to his country," his family said with pride. "He also gave that same dedication to the community as a Citizens On Patrol (COPS)."

He met and married Agnes in 1949 and together they "shared 59 loving years."

"He never knew a stranger and was a friend to all. He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. His greatest loves being his family, the Navy and the COPS. He will be missed by all," his family said.

Jake is survived by: his older sister, Ruth; his wife; two daughters, Kathy Winings and her husband, Stan, and Jeannie Pietras, and three grandchildren and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
