Florence Hampton

Florence D. Hampton, 91, of Bruneau died Oct. 7, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 13, at the Bruneau American Legion Hall. Burial followed at the Bruneau Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

She was the youngest of a set of twin girls born to Fred and Elizabeth Moxley on Dec. 14,1916, at Enterprise, Ore., joining a family of two older sisters, followed by three younger brothers and two younger sisters.

Florence met and married James B. Hampton, Jr., in 1933. They were happily married for 40 years.

"Florence devoted her life to her husband and children and anyone else that stumbled into her kitchen," her family said. "Many a friend and stranger will always remember her famous fried bread and cinnamon rolls."

Florence and James moved to the Bruneau Valley and eventually purchased the "Hampton Place" just outside of town. There they raised their four children "and welcomed many with open arms."

"Mother had been residing at Trinity Mission of Holly for the past two and a half years and they had become a part of her family," her family added. "Florence was deeply loved and will be missed daily by her family."

Florence is survived by: her three daughters, Etta Averill of Nampa, Eileen Swenson of Mountain Home and Lois and her husband, LaVar Rivers, of Nampa; daughter-in-law Sandra Hampton of Bruneau; 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was the last survivor of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, her son, James III, seven siblings, her grandson, Jerry, Jr., and two son-in-laws.
