Wayne D. Bentzinger, Sr,, 84, of Mountain Home, died Feb. 15, 2008.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will take place on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 2:30 p.m. at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Wayne was born at St. Luke's Hospital in Boise on May 25, 1923, the third child of Christian and Ester (Lind) Bentzinger. He attended Blue Valley and Meridian schools.

In his late 20s he moved to Mountain Home and worked for the Harold Beach Chicken Hatchery (Red Barn) and also ran the movie projector for the Canyon Theater.

It was at that time he met and married Ann Bauer on Dec. 19, 1952. He and Ann resided in Mountain Home for several years, raising their five children.

Wayne spent several years working for the G & S Construction.

After Wayne's retirement he met and marred Hazel Whitney on Jan. 29, 1986. The two of them spent nearly 20 years living in Featherville, enjoying fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and "good family and friends."

"Wayne truly loved working with wood, making special toys for this grandchildren and friends," his family noted.

He is survived by: his wife, Hazel; daughters Kathy and her husband, Clay Brooks, and Sandy and her husband, Lee Ford; son David and his wife, Brandy Bentzinger, and step-son David and his wife, Helen Whitney; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Roeber, Christine Harper, his wife, Ann, and his two sons, Rick and Wayne (Dude) Bentzinger.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest that donations be made to the South Fork Boise River Senior Center, located in Pine, c/o Harold Johnson, Treasurer, P.O. Box 701, Filer, ID 83328, or a charity of choice.
