James "Jimmy" Ralph Munro, 88, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, in Mountain Home.

The family gathered to celebrate Jimmy's life aon Monday, Jan. 15, in a memorial service at the Senior Citizens Center in Grand View. Arrangements were under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.

Jimmy was born Oct. 28, 1918, to James Ralph Munro and Minnie Rose Wood, in Eckert, Colo.

While growing up his father's work took the family to Colorado, Utah and California.

Jimmy graduated from high school in Beaumont, Calif., and attended college in Riverside, Calif. He was involved in football and basketball while in high school and college and loved all sports throughout his life. Jimmy played baseball on a town team in Grand View and enjoyed watching his son, Larry, play baseball.

Jimmy eloped with his high school sweetheart, Martha Jane Gould, 68 years ago, and they were secretly married in Yuma, Ariz., on July 3, 1938. Their first home was in Northern California. Jimmy worked in tunnel construction and also as a ranch hand.

The family migrated to Idaho where they farmed in Eagle before moving to Grand View where they farmed, ranched, and raised their family. The family also worked their cattle on their ranches at Boulder Mountain and Florence Springs.

Jimmy and Martha later lived in Oreana.

After retiring, they built a home in Garden Valley. They spent winters in Ivins, Utah, and Yuma, Ariz.

While living in Grand View he also sold Farm Bureau Insurance throughout southern Idaho.

He is survived by: his son, Richard (Joyce) of Northglenn, Colo.; daughter-in-law, Kathy, of Grand View; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sister Francine (John) Lightner, of St. George, Utah, and various nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his wife, Martha; a daughter, and two sons.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made, in Jimmy's name to the Rimrock Athletic Club at Rimrock Junior/Senior High School in Grand View.
