Christine Elizabeth "Tina" McMurtrey, 85, of Mountain Home, died surrounded by her family on Nov. 25, 2006.

A rosary is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 2: p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.

Tina was born on Dec. 25, 1920, in New London, Conn., to Irish immigrants John and Ann O'Shaunessey-Brennan. She was raised in a Catholic family of eight children.

In 1945, Tina married a young sailor, Skip McMurtrey, and the couple began raising their family in New London, Conn. During Skip's 20-year tour of duty aboard submarines in the Navy the couple lived in San Diego, Calif.; Bremerton, Wash.; New London Conn.; Pensacola, Fla.; Coco Solito, Panama; Stockton, Calif.; Portsmouth, N.H.; Honolulu, Hawaii, and Seattle, Wash.

In 1959 her family moved back to Mountain Home, where Tina worked in the home.

Tina was happy when sewing and making crafts and she especially loved making Christmas decorations, her family said, adding that she loved to play cards and bingo.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 26, where she served as President, a member of the Elkettes of Mountain Home, and was a member of the Mother Cabrini Society.

Tina is survived by: her only remaining sibling, Gwen Donahue (San Diego, Calif.); her five children and their spouses, Tonya and Richard Hall (Boise), Jim and Maggie McMurtrey (Eagle), Mike McMurtrey (Clarkston, Wash.), Pat McMurtrey (Clarkston, Wash.), and Tim and Cheryl McMurtrey (Mountain Home); 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, and six siblings.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Girl's State Scholarship Program of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 26, 515 E. 2nd South St., Mountain Home, ID 83647.
