Barbara Deppen, 88

Barbara J. Deppen, 68, of Mountain Home, died July 6, 2006, at her home.

A viewing was be held on Sunday, July 9, and funeral services were held at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel on Monday, July 10. Burial was held at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park in Toledo, Ohio. Arrangements were under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Barbara was born on April 16, 1938, the daughter of Kenneth and Florence Long, in Elyria, Ohio. She graduated from Libbey High School in Toledo, Ohio, in 1956.

In 1959, she married David Deppen and experienced a "one of a kind" honeymoon, in the Great Smokey Mountains, her family said.

She worked as a Payroll Officer at The Toledo Hospital until 1964.

"She thoroughly enjoyed entertaining family and friends and experimenting with new and varied recipes to everyone's delight," her family said, "usually using her family as guinea pigs. She was always up for a game of Euchre, Pinochle, Canasta, or Phase Ten. She loved card games."

She enjoyed taking the family on extensive vacations, some of which included Alaska, Massachusetts, and Idaho, where she eventually settled after retirement. She was active in the Mother's Club at Waterville Primary, excelling as chairperson for several years for their major fundraising carnival. She was essential in the promotion of ticket sales for the nationally lauded Anthony Wayne Marching Generals Annual Chicken BBQ.

She is survived by: her husband, David Deppen of Mountain Home; son Craig and his wife, Rebecca Deppen, of Mountain Home; daughter Amy and her husband, Tom Barnhiser, of Fayette, Ohio; daughter Jennifer and her husband, Scott Patay, of Toledo, Ohio; son Brian and his wife, Kami Deppen, of Genoa, Ohio; brother Kenneth and his wife, Anne Long, of Lakewood, Ohio, 20 grandchildren and eight great-grand- children.

She was preceeded in death by both of her parents and one great-granddaughter, Kathrine Elizabeth Bennett.
