Clifford Stanley, 86

Clifford Lucas Stanley, 86, of Mountain Home, died Friday, May 20, 2005, at a local hospital.

Inurnment will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, at the Veteran Cemetery in Boise. Cremation is under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.

Stanley was born Aug. 31, 1918, in Portland, Ore.

He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served in Hawaii, Espirito Santos, and Guadalcanal.

After the war, he started his own bottling business. He decided to close down his business and went to Okinawa to install a bottling plant. There, he met Sue Kumamoto. They married in 1952 and had two daughters, Susan and Sandra.

He worked as a water treatment and distribution assistant foreman for the Army Branch of the Civil Service. In 1975, a few years after Okinawa reverted back to Japan, he transferred to Mountain Home Air Force Base. He officially retired in 1977.

Both of his daughters became teachers -- Susan, an elementary school teacher and reading specialist, and Sandra a college professor.

Clifford is survived by: his wife, Sue; daughters Susan and Sandra, and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a brother Kenneth, and a sister Katherine.
