Jerry Stackle, 81

Gerald "Jerry" E. Stackle, 81, of Mountain Home, died Monday Nov. 8, 2004, at his home with his friend, Shirley, by his side after fighting a battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 26, at the American Legion Hall Post No. 26, Mountain Home. Services are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, Mountain Home.

Jerry was born Aug. 13, 1923, in Joliette, N.D., the second child to Leo and Phoebe Stackle. At the age of three his father took he and his younger sister, Leola (Lee) too Missouri, leaving his older sister, Evelyn, with his mother. At the age of 17 Jerry joined the Army. After joining the Army, Jerry transferred to the Air Force where he served for five years.

Jerry moved to Boise and while skating in a Boise skating rink he met and later married Eveline Sorensen on June 15, 1942, in Pima Ariz. Together they had five children. Eveline and Jerry later divorced after 23 years of marriage.

Jerry later met and married Shirley Peak and later divorced, but remained friends. She was Jerry's caretaker until his death.

Jerry worked for the Nehi Beverage company for a short time; he was a chef at one time for the Idanha Hotel, and also worked as a food supervisor at Gowen Field for the 124th Fighter Group of the Idaho Air National Guard. Jerry worked for the Idaho State Highway Department as a surveyor. He retired in 1982 from the state and the National Guard.

"Jerry was an awesome cook and taught all his kids the fine art of cooking," his family said. "His other hobbies besides cooking were hunting and fishing but most of all Jerry loved the summers being in Featherville, enjoying the outdoors." He also enjoyed bowling.

Jerry was an active member of American Legion Post No. 26 of Mountain Home.

Jerry is survived by: his friend, Shirley, his five children, Sam and his wife, Mary, of Mountain Home, Patricia of Oklahoma City, Gene and his wife, Gay, of Baker City, Ore., Sally and her husband, Tim, of Boise, and Jerry of Boise; five step-children, Becky, Rick, Rusty, Corky and Tim; three sisters, Anna, Betty and Loretta; 9 grandchildren; three great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.

Jerry was proceeded in death by four sisters.
