William "Bill" Berk Mauriello, 64, of Mountain Home, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at a Boise hospital.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12, at Summers Funeral Homes, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.

Bill was born on Aug. 7, 1941, in Hackensack, N.J., the son of William and Marilyn Mauriello. He graduated from Bogota High School in Bogota, N.J., in 1960 and enlisted in the US Air Force as an Air Policeman. During his 26-year career Bill was assigned overseas several times to places such as Puerto Rico, Germany, Thailand, and Greenland. During those assignments, he traveled extensively in Europe and Asia, enjoying the diverse cultures of other countries.

While stationed stateside, Bill enjoyed hunting, camping, and fishing in the beautiful states of Maine, Michigan, and Idaho, where he chose to settle after retiring honorably with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant from the Air Force.

"Bill's commitment was unchanged as he transitioned from serving his country in the military to serving his state," his family noted. Bill joined the workforce at the Idaho State Correctional Institution in Boise where he was employed until a medical disability in 1995 kept him from working.

"Bill was a consummate professional. His communicative skills, gentle manner, and personality were key reasons he was selected to perform the arduous duties of Police Investigator, Customs Inspector, Shift Leader, and Corrections Officer," his family said. "Bill earned the respect of those in his field and those whose lives he touched every day."

Bill married Martha Wesche in June 1977 in Mountain Home, and was devoted to her.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW, the Fraternal Order of Police, and a member of the Noncommissioned Officers Association.

Bill is survived by: his parents, William and Lois Mauriello of New City, N.Y.; his wife, Martha, of Mountain Home; his sons, James and daughter-in-law Pamela of Cheyenne, Wyo., and William; his daughter, Teresa, and son-in-law Mark Owen, and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his natural mother, Marilyn (Monahan) Mauriello, and his first wife, Mima (Strathern) Mauriello.
