J.D. Kopsa, 65, formerly of Mountain Home, died Wednesday Sept. 10, 2003, of cancer at Harbor Hospice Home in Las Vegas, Nev.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday Sept. 27, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the River of Life Family Worship Center, 390 N. 11th East St., in Mountain Home, where flowers or cards may also be sent.

J.D. was born Sept. 18, 1937, in Agenda, Kan., to William and Mary Kopsa.

He was raised in Kansas and eventually enlisted in the Air Force, serving four years. He met Shirley Ferganchick of Colorado and they married in 1958 in South Dakota. They were married 20 years and had four children, taking them from South Dakota to Oklahoma to Utah and finally to Mountain Home.

After 20 years J.D. remarried to Ruth Toombs of Mountain Home and they were together for 23 years until his death.

He retired from the Civil Service after serving 33 years.

He eventually moved to Las Vegas where his hobby took him to many places along with his beloved dog, Buddy.

J.D.was known for his ability to fix just about anything, his family said, adding that he also had a good singing voice and had sung at the Mountain Home Nazarene church on special occasions. He also developed a love for rock hunting and gold panning, which he enjoyed for many years.

He is survived by: his children. Teresa Powell, Jeff Kopsa, and Tempe McFarlane of Boise,Maria Richins of Ogden, Utah,his mother, Shirley Reed of Boise, and his wife, Ruth, of Las Vegas, Nev., his brother, Richard, of Bagiuo, Philippines, his sister Maureen Rytych of Kansas, and his five grandchildren.

J.D. was preceded in death by his parents William and Mary and Jessie, his youngest brother.
