Mountain Home Police respond to threat at local high school

Wednesday, February 1, 2023

Feb 1, 2023 - Mountain Home, Idaho-- In a press release from the MHPD, this morning at 8:00 a.m., the Mountain Home Police Department (MHPD) received information regarding threats against a current student enrolled at Mountain Home High School. The information was vague, from third-hand sources and unverified, but MHPD acted out of an abundance of caution and assisted the high school with a lockdown at the facility. The lockdown was in effect for the remaining school day. MHPD was assisted by deputies from the Elmore County Sheriff and troopers from Idaho State Police.

Students and staff were never in immediate danger. The student being threatened was not in attendance today and the individual behind the threat is not a student at Mountain Home High School. Law enforcement is still investigating the source of the threats and further information about this incident is not immediately available. We thank the staff, students and parents for their patience and support during this incident.

In an email released by Superintendent Gilbert to parents; today's lockdown was the result of a threat made by someone in the community to a specific student who attends MHHS. The school district was not made aware of the threat until the beginning of the school day. Many students and staff were already on campus. School was locked down due to the timing of when information was received from law enforcement. Police are actively searching for the individual who made the threats. School will operate as normal moving forward with an increase in police presence.

The individual who was threatened will not attend school until this situation is resolved.

Throughout the day, we have been updating our website to correspond with information provided by Superintendent James Gilbert.
