Thomas Albert Sheffield

Thomas Albert Sheffield, 81, passed away quietly in his home on Friday, May 29,. His family was next to him in his last days and moments and now mourn his loss.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Barbara, four children, Katherine, Heather, Thomas and Victoria, 10 grand children and 2 great grand children. all of them will miss him dearly,

Tom lived almost his entire life in Mountain Home and during that time indulged in simple pleasures. Many residents of Mountain Home would have found him daily, for most of his 81years, having coffee and a single "hot cake" while visiting with friends and family at the Desert Inn, Maple Cove or Manhattan-most passing before him notwithstanding his persistent financial support.

Tom served for a number of years as a dedicated and decorated police officer in Garden City and as a Deputy Sheriff in Boise County.

The bulk of his life was on the open road as a truck driver. He traveled millions of miles without accident -- all symbolic of the quiet dedication he has for his work and, whether sharing the road with him or awaiting him at home, his devotion and care for others.

With that same devotion, he lived (uncomfortably) in London for nearly a year-caring and supporting family members in need. While tea and crumpets can never replace an Elmore County Hotcake, his presence there will remain a cherished memory for everyone he helped.

Tom loved reading obituaries each week. What he pulled from those columns was not the praise and adulation of magnificent contributions, but rather the simple stories of love and care shared in celebration of lives lived well. In remembrance of his simplicity and quiet devotion, his surviving family remains all the richer for this.

Services will be held on June 13, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Rost Funeral in Mountain Home.
