A message from the Mayor

Wednesday, April 1, 2020

To all Mountain Home Citizens:

As we enter the second week of Gov. Little’s 21-day Stay-Home order, I want to tell you how proud I am to be your mayor. The ways in which individuals, businesses and organizations are coming together locally to help one another during this national health crisis is truly astounding, and I am humbled to witness so many good deeds great and small in our community. There are two demographics of our town that I’m especially passionate about – our youth and our elderly citizens. We’ve seen businesses, schools, and volunteers reaching out to make sure our youth are eating regular, healthy meals while schools are closed. Volunteers continue their great work with Meals on Wheels to make sure our senior citizens enjoy the same opportunities for food security and having someone check in on their welfare. I’ve also noted several residents offering to grocery shop for those who are considered high-risk for the potentially deadly effects of this virus.

Often, the individuals receiving the benefit of your kindness do not have the voice to ask for help, and it would be easy for some to forget that they need your time, attention and kindness now more than ever. I also know there are many other acts of kindness and compassion happening that I do not hear about. So, to everyone thinking and acting beyond themselves during a time when we all have more than our share of personal concerns, thank you.

Thanks also to everyone who is complying with the governor’s order. It is important for everyone, especially these most vulnerable members of our community that we all comply with the governor’s guidance and the recommendations from the Center for Disease Control. I want every Mountain Home resident to get through this and come out the other side alive and healthy. We can if we each do our part.

Finally, I want to remind you that the City of Mountain Home understands how important timely information is to you during this time. We have established a special COVID-19 page on our website at https://www.mountain-home.us/mayors-office/covid-19-updates/. The page includes updates on City services, links to state and national resources, and coronavirus-related news that relates directly to you. We are striving to provide you with as much information as possible as quickly as possible on this page and it is updated several times each week. While we are duplicating much of this information on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/mountainhomecityhall/) for your convenience, the webpage contains more detailed information and should be your primary source for coronavirus-related resources.

Again, thank you for everything you are doing. Please call us at City Hall between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. if you have questions or require any assistance at all. We will get through this together as One Town, One Team.

Mayor Rick Sykes
