Senior provides huggable support for kids in traumatic situations

Friday, March 20, 2020
Richard McKenna Senior, Kyle Myers, with Sheriff Mike Hollinshead and members of ECSO and Elmore EMS presented the first responders with stuffed animals for children they interact with.

Kyle Myers, a senior at Richard McKenna High School has a vivid memory of stopping at an accident on the interstate with his mom who is a trauma nurse. The accident involved a family with children, who during these terrifying moments for them began asking for their stuffed animals that were somewhere in the wreckage. When tasked with finding a worthy Senior Project, Myers took that moments as his inspiration and he began collecting stuffed animals. To date Kyle has donated 120 stuffed companions to the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office and Elmore County EMS with plans to keep collecting and donating more as they arrive.

During the presentation the first responders let Myers know what a big difference it makes for them to be able to give an upset child a new stuffed animal friend to reassure and to help comfort them during a scary time.
