Commissioners discuss Ethics Training, Public Defenders and a United Way Health Assessment

The Commissioners Meeting on Oct. 18, started with a short executive session, followed by a short public hearing on the FY2019 Budget Adjustment. The proposed budget adjustments were provided only to the Commissioners. They asked if there was any public opinion to be heard, there was none, so they passed the motion to approve the FY2019 Budget Adjustment.

They started an approximate three minute session as the Elmore County Ambulance District to pass few brief motions and then quickly closed.

Next up was an Ethics Review Training provided by State Deputy Attorney General David Morse. This lasted approximately 1 hour and was meant to be a refresher on ethics for all county offices. It was very interactive with quite a few questions from the Commissioners and the county offices. The training reviewed topics like improving perceptions, avoiding nepotism and personal interest conflicts. The general theme of the training was precautions to avoid ethics issues. As Morse explained, everyone should be asking themselves, ‘Does this feel right?’ Do you have to ask yourself, ‘Can I do this?’ If you’re asking these questions, then legal advice should be pursued before moving ahead with said activity.
