Community celebrates Juneteenth

Friday, June 21, 2019

On Saturday June 15th, 2019 Andrew Horton Military Masonic Lodge No. 8, of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Nevada, sponsored its 18th year celebrating Juneteenth Day at Carl Miller Park in Mountain Home, Idaho.

The 19th of June every year is a celebration of the year that the last African Slaves in Texas were told of their freedom from slavery in the United States.

Idaho officially recognized Juneteenth on February 28, 2001, when then Governor Dirk Kempthorne signed the Juneteenth Holiday Bill.

The lodge provided free hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken and drinks for the public.
