MHHS celebrates the Creative Arts

Wednesday, May 1, 2019
Drama student, Max Juarez, opened up the show with his award winning take on the Lion King. Juarez took first place in the solo humorous division at the state competition with his piece.

In a yearly tradition Mountain Home High School celebrated the arts with the Creative Arts Awards on the evening of Tuesday, April 23.

Max Juarez opened the evening with his award winning solo performance of the Lion King.

Jim Byrd was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening and introduced each teacher from the Art Department in turn.

Tauyna Page was up first, giving out awards to her drama students.

Page gave out three awards for Theatre Excellence. These are given in recognition of accomplishments for overall dedication to the craft, for developing vocal and physical characters, facial expressions, believable delivery and outstanding achievement in backstage work in areas such as stage and costume management. This year's recipients were Joel Viola who Page says "knows how to do everything," Abinadi Jenks who is "always there to help" and Noah Garza who is "a legend and amazing on stage."

The Theatre Student of the Year Award is given to a student who makes theatre part of their daily life. One who submerges themselves in the work, constantly thinking about all the complexities of the process and moves forward with confidence and flexibility. This year's winner was Destiny Campbell who earned the title through her role as assistant director. Campbell carried the weight in each and every production, helping her peers with character development and leading the way with a professional attitude. Page said she doesn't always give out the award, but theatre is in Campbell's blood and in her life on a daily basis.
