Man steals vehicle, breaks into guard station and cabin before being apprehended

On March 11, 2019 at approximately 7:34P.M., Elmore County dispatch was notified of an abandoned vehicle on a Groomed Trail on Lester Creek Road just north of the Boise National Forest Lester Creek Guard Station. Once Elmore County Deputies located the vehicle it was confirmed that the Ford F-150 was reported stolen out of Boise, Idaho.

Deputies were able to track the individual in the snow from the stolen vehicle to the Lester Creek Guard Station. Evidence showed that the individual had entered the building, caused damage to the building and removed several items from the station. The deputies continued tracking the individual foot prints in the snow which led them to a residence approximately a quarter mile south of the Lester Creek Guard Station. The deputies were able to determine that the individual had entered into the residence. Upon entering the residence the individual was located hiding in a closet in one of the bedrooms.

The individual was later identified as Matthew D. McCulloch. He was taken into custody without incident. He was later booked into the Elmore County Jail on charges including Burglary, Malicious Injury to Property, Petit Theft and Joy Riding
