BLM Pulls Resources for Fire Season

Single Engine Air Tankers lined up on the tarmac at Mountain Home Municipal airport waiting to be called out to another fire.

With warm and dry weather, comes fire season, and arguably Idaho's toughest season. Between inattentive campers and dry thunderstorms Elmore county is close to the top of the list in wild and grass fires in the country.

Mountain Home Municipal Airport Manager Ted Thompson is responsible for managing and arranging assets at the airport. Thompson said that during the fire season the airport typically houses four Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATS). For each plane there are two firefighters, a pilot and a ground support unit. Depending on the number of fires and severity of fires in the area other units within a 200 mile radius may be stationed at the airport at any given time.
