Robert A. “Bob” Carrier, Sr., age 96, of Mountain Home, passed away at his home, on Tuesday, October 24, 2017. Per his request, no services will be held. Cremation is under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, in Mountain Home.

Bob was born July 4, 1921, in Mullen, Nebraska to Lewis and Birdeen Carrier. At an early age of 16, he left home and worked at many different jobs. He started at ranches and a Dude ranch at Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Then moved to Vale, Oregon where his family had moved, doing farm work.

When World War II started he joined the Air Force, December of 1941. He served 4 years active duty, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served with the 10th Air Force, 9th Bomb Squad, in India, China, and Burma as an Engineer gunner on a B-24 Bomber. Flying over 400 hours combat missions. He was credited with shooting down the first I-45 Japanese fighter plane. His military awards include, the Air Metal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star, and Asiatic Theatre Medal.

When returning to the States on March 1, 1944, he married Eileen Gundersen at Ontario, Oregon. They shared 73 years together. Three children were born to this union. They traveled to Arizona and California until his discharged from the Air Force, in September of 1945. He then worked as a Ranger for the Forest Service in Oregon. He worked as a Millwright and Electrician at different sawmills for Boise Cascade in Oregon and Idaho. In 1955 he moved to California where he worked for the Air Force and NASA Space Program as a Test Stand Technician. He work on the first moon shot, Apollo 13, in 1967, and carved his name on all the missiles that went to the moon.

When work ended in Sacramento in 1972, he moved to Boise, where he went to work as an Engineer and Supervisor for St. Alphonsus Hospital. He retired from there in 1986 and moved to Mountain Home, making a home on the land purchased there.

He had a great love for the outdoors and mountains, and was a lifelong avid hunter and fisherman. His guns and reloading of ammunition equipment has been a big joy in his life. He had many other interests and hobbies. He especially loved to make things from wood. His family and friends were grateful recipients of his labor.

Bob was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and Shriners.

Bob is survived by his wife Eileen, a daughter Linda Jenkins and her husband Gary, of California, his son Robert Carrier of Mountain Home, 7 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 half-brothers, Douglas and his wife Dianne Andrews of Oregon, Dennis Andrews and his wife Ellen of Meridian, half-sister Audree Fisher of Caldwell. Preceding him in death are his father, mother, stepfather, daughter Cheryl, 2 brothers, 1 stepbrother, and 2 sisters.
