Naïve but not discouraged: Where did the all the warmth go?

Wednesday, October 4, 2017

Strange weather has plagued Mountain Home lately. One day it can be sunny, warm and beautiful, yet the next covers vehicles in ice.

If history decides to repeat itself, this winter will be cold, wet and filled with snow.

I can't be the only one who misses the sunny days though, am I?

One day I'm enjoying the warmth of the sun filtering through my windows as I drive, and the next I have to use the defrost button on my car. I half expect the first snowfall to happen before the end of the month.

With the colder weather comes a beautiful time of year, though. The leaves changes to shades of red and gold, people don sweaters and scarves and the aroma of apple cider fills the air.

While I miss the warmth of the sun, I am looking forward to what fall has to offer.

I remember the trips to the pumpkin patch, and I always gravitate towards the smallest pumpkins.

I love curling up on the couch with a warm mug of coffee or hot chocolate, listening to rain drops on the roof or the dialogue of my favorite characters in a new book.

With the colder months come some of my favorite holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I can already smell the honey glazed ham cooking in the oven, taste the golden marshmallows concealing candied yams and hear the crunch of the onions on top of the green bean casserole. Days wrapped in a blanket, watching movies with family, are the best ones of the year.

The sun is bound to come again.
