Wednesday, September 27, 2017

On Saturday Sept. 23, 2017 at 10:44 p.m. Elmore County Deputies responded to a report of a man walking in the middle of the right lane of Interstate 84 outside of Glenns Ferry, Idaho. Deputies arrived at 10:46 p.m. and located Mr. Gregorio Montemayor III from Gooding, Idaho deceased, in the left lane, after being struck by a vehicle.

Interstate 84 was temporarily closed to eastbound traffic from Mile Post 121 to Mile Post 129 to allow emergency responders time to investigate. A temporary detour around the crash site was established from 11:00 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. – all lanes are now open.

Preliminary investigation suggests Mr. Montemayor had attended a party in the area and had left, alone, on foot, after an altercation with other guests attending the party. According to statements made by witnesses at the party, Mr. Montemayor was intoxicated when he left the event; the presence of alcohol in Mr. Montemayor has not yet been determined by the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Mr. Montemayor provided a voluntary breath sample showing no alcohol being present at the time of the crash.

This is an ongoing investigation.
