1938 - 2017

Patricia Jean Kennedy, 79, formerly of Mountain Home and Boise, Idaho, died on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at The Hospice of East Texas Home Place Center, in Tyler, Texas, after a one year battle with cancer.

At Patty’s request, no funeral services will be conducted, and her ashes will be spread on a mountain overlooking the cabin in Featherville she and her family had for almost 40 years. There will be a celebration of Patty’s life with her relatives and close friends at a later date.

Patty was born on March 25, 1938, at Twin Falls, Idaho, the daughter of Eugene and Verna Glasby Scofield. Following her father’s death, Patty moved to Mountain Home with her mother and younger brother, where she attended grade school, junior high and high school, graduating from Mountain Home High School in 1956. Patty attended the University of Idaho for two years, where she was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority.

Patty married Fred Kennedy, a classmate of hers in the Mountain Home schools, on January 3, 1959, and Patty and Fred moved to Moscow, Idaho, where Fred resumed his studies at the University of Idaho. The family then moved to Washington D. C, where Fred attended law school, and moved back to Mountain Home in 1963, where they lived and raised their family for the next 7 plus years. In 1971, the family moved to Boise, where they resided for the next 30 years, before returning to live in Mountain Home and at their cabin in Featherville. During the early years of their lengthy marriage, Patty and Fred had three lovely children, Tammy, Teresa and John. While the children were growing up and attending schools, Patty spent her time at home guiding and raising them and later enjoying her grandchildren. She and her children and grandchildren loved to spend time in the mountains at the family cabin in Featherville. Once her children were raised, Patty enjoyed working as a real estate sales person for two firms in Boise. During the past 2 ½ years, Patty and Fred have been residing in Tyler, Texas, to be close to their daughter, Teresa.

Patty always enjoyed giving to her family, friends and others in need, rather than receiving. Her greatest love was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by all of them, by her husband, and by other relatives and her many close friends.

Patty was preceded in death by her mother and father, her uncle and aunt, John and Mary Alice Glasby, and by her daughter, Tammy Kennedy Zehner. Survivors include her husband of almost 59 years, her two children, Teresa Kennedy and her husband, Michael Odell, of Tyler, Texas, and John Kennedy, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, her brother, T. J. Scofield, of Boise, her two sisters-in-law, Jo Black, of Mountain Home, and Julie Garcia, of Boise, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Memorials may be made to the Idaho Youth Ranch, The Hospice of East Texas Home Place Center, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701, or to the charity of your choice.
