Evacuation order remains in effect at Bruneau Sand Dunes

An evacuation order remains in effect at Bruneau Sand Dunes State Park as the Love Ridge Fire threatens the park and surrounding area.

Multiple fires were being reported by the Bureau of Land Management, including one in the vicinity of Glenns Ferry, although details were not immediately available.

The Owyhee County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies from their department helped in the evacuation of the state park on Sunday as the fire approached. At last reports, the blaze had scorched more than 32,000 acres.

According to Jennifer Okerlund, communications manager with the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation, the fire got close to the cabins within the park overnight but all structures within the park are fine. Crews with the BLM held the fire at the boundary of the park, avoiding structures and campgrounds.

Currently, there are areas near the park boundary still smoldering but there is no active fire. Park staff will use their fire suppression vehicle to hit hot spots throughout the day on Monday.

There is no word yet on when campers and visitors can return to park.
