Commissioners discuss range fire prevention steps

With a county wide burn ban going into effect today, the Elmore County board of commissioners started a discussion last week to find ways to minimize the risk of range fires across the region.

The commissioners took the steps as a way to avoid the potential for a dangerous summer fire season with the numerous brush fires anticipated.

During a meeting June 9, the commission invited Tate Fischer from the Bureau of Land Management and Chris Robins from the State Range Conservation Service to talk about solutions to the potential fire hazard associated with a record-setting winter that allowed vegetation to grow taller than normal.
