Report: Rivers to remain above average this summer

Thursday, June 15, 2017

With an abundant snowpack still existing in the central mountain region of the state, the Natural Resources Conservation Service predicts that river levels across Idaho will remain above average during the summer.

In a report released June 7, the remaining high elevation snowpack above 8,000 feet remains more than twice the normal amounts for this time of year with similar totals reported in most basins across Idaho.

Periodic cold fronts last month helped slow down the rate that the state's abundant mountain snowpack melted. This produced multiple streamflow peaks during May which eased the pressure from high flows as communities prepared for high runoff, according to the report.
