Overlook restoration

Visitors pause to take in the view of the Owyhee Canyonlands Wilderness as officials with the Bureau of Land Management marked the completion of a project to improve the Bruneau Canyon Overlook. During a ceremony on Thursday, nearly 100 people attended a ribbon cutting event to celebrate the improvements made to the overlook, which provides a paved pathway and increased safety measures along the canyon rim along with a restroom facility.

The overlook, located approximately 24 miles south of Bruneau on the east side of the Bruneau River, is home to rare wildlife, white water river adventures in addition to providing spectacular views for visitors. Shoshone-Paiute tribal artist Delmar Kelley created the artwork for one of the interpretive panels at the overlook, which showcases the work of the Owyhee Initiative and the importance of the area to the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes, ranchers, farmers and recreationists.
