Commissioners address county's landfill payments

Friday, April 28, 2017

Concerns over the amount of money Elmore County is paying to store waste at a local landfill remained one of the top issues addressed by the county commissioners during a meeting April 14.

Information presented at the meeting showed that the county is being charged $33 per ton of solid waste being shipped to the Simco Road Landfill, which is owned by Jack Yarbrough.

In comparison, Ada and other counties are being charged $23 per ton and as low as $15.50 per ton. In addition, there was a discrepancy aired at the meeting involving what the county is being charged for commercial waste and the amount that is actually going to the landfill if Snake River Rubbish is the one carrying it.
