Animal control issues straining shelter staff

Loretta Runyan with the Mountain Home Animal Shelter spends a quiet moment with Mister Kitty, who was turned over to the shelter as a stray. On Monday, the domesticated feline found his permanent home after a family adopted him.

March was an especially busy day for Danniele Strain and her team. During the month, the Mountain Home Animal Shelter had picked up nearly 40 stray cats in addition to dealing with a number of dogs running loose in town.

The supervisor for the shelter on Northwest Elmcrest Street believes the animal problem is only going to get worse as the weather continues to improve.
