Whistle Pig journal seeks submissions

Saturday, March 4, 2017

Representatives with the Mountain Home Arts Council are seeking original stories and artwork for its yearly literary journal.

With its ninth volume slated for publication this fall, The Whistle Pig includes short stories, poems, memoirs, personal musings, drama, song lyrics and other short literary pieces written by people in the local area.

The publication also features a variety of visual art, including drawings, paintings and photographs. In addition, this year's journal will feature art from the Community Canvas of Mountain Home -- an outdoor gallery in the city's downtown area produced by local artists.

Prose entries are limited to 5,000 words with poetry limited to three, double-spaced pages or up to 1,200 words. While all writing must be production ready, The Whistle Pig's editorial committee reserves the right to make small adjustments in the writing such as spelling, punctuation and usage.

Entries should include a cover sheet with a brief, 50-word biography including the writer's name, address, e-mail address and phone number.

Visual art entries are limited to 8 1/2 by 11 inches. Members of the local visual arts guild will select the artwork for this year's journal, which will be published in black and white.

To meet the publication deadline, all entries are due by May 8. People may submit their entries via e-mail by sending a message to literaryarts@mharts.org using the subject line "The Whistle Pig submission." Individuals may also submit their art work in person by contacting Patti Hamaishi at P & C Plumbing or Brenda Raub at Mountain Home High School.

For more information about The Whistle Pig or the Mountain Home Arts Council's upcoming programs, contact literary arts committee chairman Chris DeVore at 598-5548 or via e-mail at literaryarts@mharts.org or arts council executive director Sally Cruser at 587-3706 or via e-mail at mh-arts@qwestoffice.net.
