Tigers' wrestling teams earn top honors at Madison meet

Mountain Home High School's wrestling squads continued their winning ways as the varsity and junior varsity athletes competed at the Madison High Wrestling Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The varsity Tigers finished first overall out of 17 teams and easily won the title by a wide margin, said coach Scott Mederios. During the tournament, 12 of the team's 14 varsity wrestlers placed in the top five with Pierce Mederios and Jonathan Kaiser finishing the tournament with championship honors in their respective weight classes. Meanwhile, Gage Wilson, Gavin Hazell, Kanoa Doronio and Zach Slack finished second overall. Third-place honors went to Tyler Hardin, Dylan Park and Alex Castro with Zach Park coming in fourth place and Dustin Farnsworth and Tim Goodell rounding out the top five. In related news, the Tigers' junior varsity squad finished fourth overall with Dallas Mayhew, Hunter Thornburg and Anthony Humphus earning championship standings in their respective weight classes. Brandon Wussow, Jacob Herrboldt and Dillon Johnson finished in third place while Benny Vogl and Kobie Jewett took sixth. "All of the guys battled super hard, and we had 10 wrestlers place higher then where they were seeded at the beginning of the tournament," said coach Scott Mederios. The Tigers wrestling squads return home today, Jan. 18, as they host Skyview at 5 p.m. in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium. They return to the road on Tuesday as they compete against the Caldwell Cougars.
