When Mountain Home High School girls varsity basketball team entered the gym at Columbia High School, fans knew something had changed. With a new offense and defense, combined and a winning attitude, the Lady Tigers started the season on Saturday ready to play.

Returning starters senior Jacey Carr, sophomore Jazzi Cristobal, sophomore Adrie Blanksma were joined by new starter Emilee Pippin and junior Kylie Meadows as they started the game with a few nerves as they tied the score at 11 at the end of the first quarter ending 11-11. Quickly, the Lady Tigers began getting into a rhythm, ending the half with a 25-17 lead.

When the team returned to the court to start the second half, the fans felt the team's power and energy. Taking advantage of smooth passes and rebounds, Mountain Home scored 24 additional points to end the third, 49-22.

But the Lady Tigers weren't done yet. They held Columbia to just four points in the fourth quarter to end the game, 60-26.

Meadows led the Lady Tiges with 24 points and 16 rebounds with Blanksma adding 13 points. Pippin finished the game with six points and three assists, Cristobal had five points and six assists and Carr added six points and five rebounds.

Coming off the bench, Sable Lohmeier was credited with four points and eight rebounds while Elizabeth Ryan dropped in two points. Tigers finished the evening with 51 rebounds and 10 turnovers.

The varsity squad wasn't the only winner on Saturday with the Lady Tigers' junior varsity and sophomore teams also coming out on top.

The junior varsity squad ran into foul trouble early on in the game but held tough and battled through their first-game jitters to win a 36-34 thriller. Resiliency showed in the JV squad during that close game with Abby Acarregui leading all scorers with 13 points.

Kjnara Swanson finished the game with 11 points, Anyssa Garza added five points, Ashley Drake dropped in four points and Cassie Dearing and Taylor Springer both had two.

In girls' sophomore basketball action that day, Samantha Farnsworth and Aja Harrigan each contributed 11 points as the team rolled to an easy 32-16 win against Columbia. Lauren Arillaga added six points while Renee McCombs dropped in four more for the sophomore squad.

The Lady Tigers return home on Friday as they face Ridgevue during a black out contest. Mountain Home remains at home on Saturday as they take on Wood River.
