Helping to save the kitchen

Thursday, October 27, 2016

From left, Cristena Ford, Lorin Ford and Richard Urquidi from the Mountain Home Elks Lodge present a check to Connie Cruser and Lisa Simpson from the Mountain Home Senior Center during a meeting Oct. 8 at the lodge. In May, the oven at the senior center stopped working with the staff having to tap into its "Save the Kitchen" fund that was set aside to make needed improvements to the meal preparation area. The $2,411 presented on behalf of the Elks will help the senior center restore those funds, which it's collected in recent weeks during an ongoing effort to overhaul the senior center kitchen, which provides lunchtime meals at the center in addition to providing meals to homebound individuals as part of its Meals on Wheels program. Money presented to the center included $2,000 from the Elks National Foundation Gratitude Grant with the remaining money coming from a grant from the state Elks association.
