Glenns Ferry school released from lockdown

Wednesday, October 5, 2016

Glenns Ferry School was temporarily placed on lockdown Wednesday morning in response to a message posted on social media.

According to Glenns Ferry district superintendent Cody Fisher, a student at the school received a message showing an image of a clown standing in front of the school earlier that morning.

It's possible the incident is tied, in part to the "creepy clown" phenomenon that's popping up in communities across the United States. The issue began showing up on social media in recent weeks in which people are allegedly dressing up as clowns in an effort to scare people.

The report involving Glenns Ferry School comes just days after reports began surfacing of a possible sighting in Mountain Home over the weekend.

"We felt that we had enough information that we needed to shelter in place," said Fisher, who added that the measure was simply a precaution and that there was no evidence that any students were being threatened.

For two hours, students and staff remained in their classrooms and offices with the doors locked with no one allowed to enter or leave the building without approval by school administrators.

The school was released from lockdown at 12:15 p.m.

Detective Clint Andrus from the Elmore County Sheriff's Department said the incident will be investigated. However, he emphasized that no threats were disclosed in the message the student received.
