Firefighters and their families joined Mayor Rich Sykes and others in the community as they paused that day to honor those who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks against the United States on Sept. 11, 2001. Sunday marked the 15th anniversary of the attacks against the Twin Towers in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., in which terrorists hijacked commercial airliners and rammed the jets into these buildings. A fourth aircraft was also hijacked that day, but was deliberately crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pa., as passengers fought to regain control of that jet. (Photo by Jenny Call)
