Alfred "Fred" Svetkovich, 70, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016 at his home peacefully in his sleep.

He leaves his wife of 50 years, Arlene; his son, Steven and his wife, Bobbie; his brothers, Steve, Phillip, and Donnie; his sisters, Carolyn and Patty; one grandchild, Christiana; and many cousins, nephews, nieces and close friends.

He was born on April 3, 1946, the son of Steve and Mollie Svetkovich. Fred graduated Lawrenceburg High School in 1965.

After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Fred served 24 honorable years in the military from the years of 1966 to 1991. Thereafter, he worked at the Idaho State Prison as a guard until his retirement.

He had a dedication to family, friends, football and fishing. There were hardly any card games he couldn't win. A kind and generous man, he had a laughter that could permeate a room.

Fred's true devotion was to his wife, Arlene. They were high school sweethearts. It was love at first sight. They were joined in holy matrimony on June 25, 1966, in Mississippi.

Fred and Arlene would tell each other every day I will love you, forever and a day.

"The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart."

Fred's memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 12, 2016 at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home. Inurnment with full military honors will follow at 3 p.m. at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise.
