Local church heads annual student backpack benefit

This year marks the fourth year Pastor Cheryl Stull from the River of Life Family Worship Center has organized the "Operation: I got your backpack" project that put school supplies in the hand of local students who otherwise might not be able to afford them. The project is in need of school supply donations and help filling backpacks during an evening event Thursday, Aug. 11.

The fourth annual "Operation: I Got Your Backpack" project kicked off July 10 and will run through Aug. 17 when the group hands over the packs to individual schools in the area.

The project's main purpose is to get school supplies into the hands of local children who otherwise might not be able to afford them.

Pastor Cheryl Stull from the River of Life Family Worship Center has led the charity operation since the beginning. Over the past four years, she's received a lot of help to make the program work, and this year is no different.

"Many members of our congregation have volunteered and donated generously and so have local businesses and organizations like the Elks, (Bank of the) Cascade(s) and the residents of The Cottages Assisted Living facility," Stull said.
