WECRD's new board a scam

Wednesday, July 27, 2016

Dear editor,

Wow! How time flies! I can't believe that it's been 16 years since the taxpayers of Elmore County approved a bond to pay for a recreation center with pool, and here we are today -- 2016 -- and no closer than that dream in 2000.

This WECRD board is a SCAM. They are giving away money to any group that asks for it; money that isn't theirs to give. Who in the county government is monitoring this?

I can't remember seeing an audit published in the paper showing where all this money goes. After 16 years, we should be enjoying our facility, but no. At the rate the WECRD board gives out money, I'll be rolling over in my grave before there's a facility. This is fraud and waste.

We voted and approved our money to be spent for a facility with a pool, not a skateboard park that only a few kids will use. There was no mention in the bond to give away thousands of dollars for football uniforms and equipment, wrestling mats or cheerleading uniforms and mats. Really?

Each time this board meets, it costs the taxpayers money. We've become a society where everyone just expects a hand out for doing nothing.

If the kids want new uniforms, how about they WORK for them by doing community projects and donating their time to improving areas of our city. Or if working for something isn't their thing, then they could start a "Go Fund Me Page."

I've learned my lesson. I'll be voting NO on every bond and request for money in the future. It's obvious that there is no one over seeing the spending or handling of our money.
