Fourteen wrestlers from Mountain Home went undefeated and took home the championship title following their recent appearance at the Northern Idaho Wrestling Camp.

Held at the University of Idaho in Coeur d'Alene, this marked the fourth consecutive year that Mountain Home has attended the camp, which included 16 schools from Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

While the camp focused initially in teaching different wrestling skills to this year's participants, a majority of the time was devoted to allowing the students compete during a dual tournament, said Scott Mederios, who recently took over as the head coach of the Mountain Home High School wrestling team.

During the tournament, Mountain Home went undefeated at 7-0, putting the team into the gold bracket during the championship round. The only team from Idaho represented at the camp, Mountain Home continued to dominate the mats, finishing the final rounds by posting a score of 39-9 in total points to win the title with a flawless 2-0 record.

"This is the best we've ever done," Mederios said. "We've come away with winning records before, but this was the first time we've ever been undefeated."

Following that competition, the teams then faced off in a take-down tournament in which players competed based on their weight classes. Mountain Home continued to demonstrate its winning ways with a 2-1 record with wrestlers Pierce Mederios and Kanoa Doronio coming away with championship standings. Meanwhile, Hunter McCluskey was second in his division.

The wrestling coach extended his personal thanks to the city of Mountain Home for its support over the years. He then offered additional thanks to the Western Elmore County Recreation District, which provided funds to allow the wrestling team to purchase new mats for the high school and junior high school squads.

Those new mats will serve Mountain Home's future wrestling all stars for years to come, the coach said.
