Rex Day

Rex was born October 16, 1926, in Oakley, Idaho to LeRoy and Myrtle (Bean) Day. He was the middle of three children who enjoyed growing up in the Sweet area. He spent his high school years in New Meadows and joined the Navy when he came of age. He served his country in the Philippines during WWII.

After his return home he met the love of his life, Barbara. They attended the University of Idaho together and were married on December 21, 1947. From this union two daughters were born, Chris and Connie. Rex and Barb graduated in 1950, Rex with a BS Degree in Accounting. He spent 30 years as a civilian Chief of Finance for the Mountain Home Air Force Base.

After retiring, he enjoyed his roses, a small garden, and tying flies. He also looked forward to his yearly trip to Henry's Lake and Yellowstone Park with his extended family.

The Passion Play presented at Oberammergau Germany, was his most cherished memory of European travels. Throughout the years he faithfully captured memories of family gatherings and holidays in artfully crafted videos leaving a cherished legacy.

Rex is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Barbara Joyce Knapton Day, sister Loraine Carr, brother in law Jack (Laurie) Knapton, daughter Christine (Robert) Patrick, two grand sons Forrest Patrick, Julien (Jenni) Patrick, four grand daughters Kelli (Brian) Grunerud, Brandi Swindell, Jenny (Eric) Weaver, Amelia (Nick) Hughes, five great grand children Alexander Grunerud, Kaitlyn Tiller, Ben Hughes, David Huges, Jaxon Grunerud, and his faithful cat Ty Lilly.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Connie Swindell, January 2016, grand daughter Ninya Ostermiller, sister Marlys Bailey, sister in law Elizabeth (Keith) Adams, and his parents.

There will be a cemetery service at Idaho State Veterans Cemetery on July 12, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Cloverdale Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please consider the American Cancer Society, the Humane Society or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Doctors Koelsch, Rice, and Edwards for their dedication to Rex's health.
