Richard "Dick" Humpherys passed away peacefully on April 12, 2016, at his home in Hammett. He was a beloved father, grandfather and friend.

Dick was born Jan. 26, 1930, in Pocatello to Lorin and Ina Humpherys. He married Ella Baker on July 23, 1951, and they were married for 49 years before his beloved wife passed away in 2001. The couple had three sons, Dennis, Dave and Douglas.

Dick served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict as a tank driver and mechanic. He went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad on his return. He then worked the next 36 years for Koch's Lumber and Implement of Hammett, where he was known as the best tractor mechanic in the area.

From early in life, he loved the outdoors. He and Ella took many trips across Bennett Mountain to see the wildlife and he was always busy making bird houses for the Elma Goodman Bluebird Trail. Some of his favorite times were hunting and camping trips at Steel Mountain above Rocky Bar with the Knowles and Morrison families.

He was best known for his mechanical abilities. He spent his whole life fixing things for other people. There was almost nothing that he couldn't fix, be it mechanical or electrical. He would spend many hours in his shop working on things that friends and family needed help with.

He will also be remembered by his grandchildren as "the great peanut brittle making man" because he would spend hours making peanut brittle for everyone at Christmas.

Dad enjoyed his trips to Oregon to visit his sister and cared for her very much. He would always return to Hammett with fresh oysters and filberts for his family to enjoy.

Dick is survived by sons, Dennis and David (Joyce) of Hammett; five granddaughters; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Coral, of Beaverton, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Cecil Ray; wife Ella and his son, Douglas.

A graveside inurnment service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Glenn Rest Cemetery in Glenns Ferry followed by a lunch at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Cremation was under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, in Mountain Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the V.F.W., P.O. Box 483, Glenns Ferry, ID 83623, would be greatly appreciated.
