Dodgeball tourney planned

Thursday, April 14, 2016

The spirit of friendly competition returns to Mountain Home High School next week during a community dodgeball tournament.

With local businesses, government and private organizations, civic groups and students open to forming their own teams, the event is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. April 27 in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.

The entry fee is $25 each team. Proceeds from the event will benefit the high school's senior celebration committee. Senior celebration representatives emphasized that the single-elimination tournament is also open to teams representing various squadrons at Mountain Home Air Force Base.

Tickets to the event for spectators are available at the door. A dessert auction is also planned that evening.

The senior celebration committee is continuing a tradition of honoring the graduating seniors with a safe, chaperoned events that began in 1984. It offers what event organizers call an alcohol-free, drug-free, safe, sane and fun event.

Using feedback from surveys submitted by graduating seniors in recent weeks, organizers plan to hold this year's celebration at Wahooz Family Fun Zone in Meridian.

Parents of Mountain Home High School's graduating class continue to organize other fundraisers to cover the costs associated with the senior celebration event. Typically, organizers need to raise about $20,000 a year through various fundraisers to help pay for expenses during the celebration.

Fund-raising efforts continue Saturday during a community yard sale at Albertsons in Mountain Home. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day in the supermarket parking lot, and donations are welcome.

Tickets for the senior celebration go on sale starting April 25.

Senior celebration organizers continue to invite parents and others in the community to join their planning committee. The group meets at 7 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month at the high school.
