Alvin Lee Powers, age 68, was called home to be with Jesus on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, after a brief and sudden fight with cancer. Alvin was a beloved son, brother, husband, uncle, father and grandfather as well as a vital part of the Mountain Home community.

His memory and legacy will be forever remembered with friends and family.

Alvin was born on May 1, 1947, in Gooding, Idaho, to Fred Ross and Audrey Powers. He was the youngest of six. He grew up in Glenns Ferry and graduated in 1965. Alvin attended Northwest Nazarene College and graduated in 1969.

While at NNC, Alvin met his soul mate, Connie (Mahler) Powers of Homedale. They married Aug. 1, 1970. Alvin taught and coached in Grangeville, Idaho, and Baggs, Wyo. He then worked for Mountain Home Radio, wrote sports articles for the local paper and was a Elmore County Juvenile Probation Officer.

Alvin and Connie would spend the next 45 years sharing adventures together while raising their two daughters. Alvin spent the last years of his life traveling with Connie visiting many areas, including Hawaii, Alaska, Branson, Missouri and one of Alvin's dream locations, the home of the "King" in Graceland.

Alvin will be remembered as a man of God who lived and professed his faith in Jesus Christ whenever the opportunity provided itself. Alvin will be remembered as a man who put others before himself making sure they were provided for.

Alvin will be remembered as a mentor to the many young men and women he worked with in our local sports community and his time as a Juvenile Probation Officer in Elmore County. He will be forever known as the "Voice of the Tigers."

Alvin is survived by his wife, Connie; his daughters, Amber (Matt Gresham) and Audrey (Chris Riley); his five grandchildren, Tyler, Allyson, Ellie, Lainey, and Tristan; his brother Leon Powers (Willa); and two sisters, Leona Powers and Dee Floyd. Alvin is preceded in death by his son, Aaron Lee Powers; his brothers, Ross Powers and Thomas Powers; and his parents.

Alvin will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.

A viewing will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at The Mountain Home Church of the Nazarene, and burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
