UPDATE: One killed in three-vehicle crash

The eastbound side of the interstate in the vicinity of milepost 76 was temporarily blocked due to a fatal three-vehicle crash reported around 9 a.m. Jan. 8.

Eastbound traffic was diverted off the interstate onto Desert Wind Road at the Simco Road exit as emergency responders cleared the crash site.

According to an initial report from Idaho State Police, the crash involves a semi vehicle and two passenger cars. The semi lost its load of tires and axles and jackknifed, and a state police spokesperson indicated that it will take some time to clear the crash.

One person was declared dead at the scene while three additional people were transported to local area hospitals.

The cause of the crash is being investigated, although initial reports indicate that road conditions in the area were extremely slippery.
