Detective Robert Sugden receives the department's officer of the year title from city police chief Nick Schilz during the Mountain Home Police Association's annual Christmas party.

For his contributions to the local community, a detective with the Mountain Home Police Department was honored with its officer of the year award.

Detective Robert Sugden received the honor during the Mountain Home Police Association's annual Christmas party, held earlier this month.

Sugden started his career with city police department in 2008. For the past four years, he's been assigned to the investigations bureau where he serves as a police detective.

Other officers in the running for the distinction included Patrol Sgt. Russell Griggs and Officer Brian Thomas.

"The choice for officer of the year was a hard one," said city police chief Nick Schilz. "Although all three have shown great dedication to this department and community, Detective Sugden was selected for this top honor."

Sugden was described as an officer with great dedication who genuinely cares about his community and co-workers, the city police chief said. He's one that sets an excellent example for others to follow by going above and beyond his obligations as an officer.

During the annual gathering, the local police association also recognized investigations administrative assistant Jane Perry as its member of the year.

The award was in recognition of her hard work and dedication to the association and its members, police officials said.
