2015: Mountain Home's year in review

Brad Paisley was one of country music's top entertainers that performed at the Mountain Home Country Music Festival, which at one point had doubled the population of Mountain Home.

Growing discontent over the Western Elmore County Recreation District, which led to two efforts that sought to change the direction of the organization, topped the list of stories making headlines in the Mountain Home News over the past 12 months.

The newspaper's editorial board overwhelming agreed that the number of changes affecting the local taxing district gained the most attention by readers in the Mountain Home community.

The year began as the recreation district continued a capitol campaign aiming to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to build the recreation complex on South 18th East Street. However, that effort came under fire as opponents of the taxing district known as "Stop the Madness" launched a petition drive that ultimately sought to disband the organization.

Several weeks later, that petition was put on hold as confusion reigned over a deadline to turn in the required signatures. Shortly afterward, two members of the Stop the Madness group announced plans to run for two of the seats on the recreation district's board of directors.
