Drivers urged to watch for wildlife migration near Mountain Home

Tuesday, December 29, 2015

The Idaho Transportation Department issued an advisory Tuesday afternoon warning motorists to watch for elk and deer migrating along the interstate near Mountain Home.

In recent days, herds of elk and deer were reported along the highway between mileposts 77 and 104.

Heavy snow in higher elevations has contributed to the movement of wildlife in southwest Idaho along several roadways, including the interstate. Idaho Fish and Game spokesman Mike Keckler said a timeline for how long this migration pattern may continue varies during winter months.

"Drivers are encouraged to pay attention and be alert, particularly at dawn and dusk when wildlife may be on the move," Keckler said.

ITD reminds all drivers to buckle up, pay attention and check 511.idaho.gov for the latest road conditions.
