Mountain Home's wrestling teams continued to dominate the mats with nine varsity and seven junior varsity players earning wins against Kuna during a home meet on Dec. 16.

The varsity wrestlers earned eight wins -- all by fall -- during the event in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium as they fought their way to a 54-28 victory over the Kavemen.

Varsity players earning wins that evening were Gavin Hazell in the 98-pound weight class, Pierce Mederios at 113, Kanoa Doronio in the 120, Dylan Park at 138, Tyler Hardin in the 145, Taylor Ogaard at 182, Daniel Cruz in the 195 and Tim Goodell at 220. Jose Ortiz won by forfeit in the 285 division.

Meanwhile, Gage Wilson lost by a pin in the 106 weight class with Brad Keierleber losing by a fall in the 152. Those losing on a technical were Dallas Mayhew in the 126-pound weight class and Andrew Thornburg in the 160 division.

In addition, Zach Slack lost by a decision in the 132 while Jayden Sexton fell in the 170.

In junior varsity action that evening, the Tigers maintained their dominance of the mats with six wrestlers walking away with wins by fall and another claiming a victory by decision.

Benny Vogl and Brandon Wusson won in the 113-pound weight class with Hunter Thornburg and Troy Elliot leading in the 126 division. Ryan Grindle won by a fall in the 138 with Austin Tetrault and Alex Castro adding two more wins in the 145-pound division.

Seth West lost by a fall in the 120-pound weight class while David Welle, Dillan Williamson and Dante Haeberle fell in the 132 division. Matt Arellano lost by a fall in the 138 while Juan Torres fell by a decision in the 152 division.

Meanwhile, Jonathon Sprain and Tyler Durham lost by falls in the 160 division while Henry Bergstol lost by a fall in the 145-pound weight class.

Coach Lynn Knudson said most of the team performed quite well during their home game and walked away with a "great win."

"We had a great crowd, and it always helps the kids see all the support we have out there in the school and community," Knudson said. "We have not reached our potential as a team, but we have all our kids working hard to make that happen."

The varsity team traveled to the Bonneville Duals Tournament on Friday and Saturday while the junior varsity squad headed to the Bearcat Tournament during the weekend. Following the Christmas break, both teams return to the mat Jan. 5 as they travel to Twin Falls for a tri-meet versus Twin Falls and Buhl.
