Tigers really tried their best

Wednesday, October 21, 2015

Last night, I witnessed an amazing event on the soccer field at Middleton High School. I watched your Tigers go down in defeat to the Middleton Vikings.

The truth is that while they lost a futbol game, they were NOT defeated.

I have watched the Tigers play three games this year -- once early in the season, once in the middle of the season and finally last night. They are without a doubt the most improved team in the conference. As the season unfolded, they were better each game I watched.

Last night, I witnessed a competitive Tiger Team which would NOT quit. They managed to take the game to the last couple of minutes of the second overtime period before a penalty kick settled the game.

When they left the field at the end of play, my heart ached for them, but at the same time I felt a real pride for their inspired play.

By the end of the game, spectators from Skyview and from Bishop Kelly, who were waiting for the next game, found themselves cheering for the Tigers.

I just felt compelled to write to say their effort last night was the epitome of why we want our students to participate in sports and other extra-curricular activities.

Tigers -- thanks for your inspirational play and your never-quit attitude. Great Job, Tigers.
