Children give Sparky the Fire Dog a group hug as the youngsters waited in line with their parents to ride a fire truck during the Mountain Home Fire Department's annual open house on Thursday. More than 1,400 people received a ride on a fire truck throughout the evening, which coincided with this year's National Fire Prevention Week observance.

Lights flashed and sirens regularly blared for nearly four hours Thursday evening as the Mountain Home people gathered to celebrate the community's biggest fire prevention gathering.

More than 1,400 people packed into Fire Station One to enjoy an evening of fun and education at this year's open house.
